Almost ready for a testimonial, and he's still in his mid-twenties, tidy left-back Hammell is back home after a brief trip to Southend
After breaking into the first team as a 17-year-old, this elegant, graceful left-back has put in almost a decade’s sterling work for the club. Much sought-after over the years by the likes of Aberdeen, Celtic and Derby, Hammell’s tenure at Fir Park has been broken only by an 18-month spell at Southend United. The one-cap Scotland international returned to Motherwell in January 2008 for £110,000, much to the delight of the fans. Not one to venture too high up the park, the Lanarkshire lad brings quality, experience and skill to the ‘Well defence.
