A Reds fan when he was just a nipper (or was he...?), now he's the Liverpool skipper. Inspirational, creative and he'll always have Istanbul
Liverpool’s captain is the complete modern footballer. The dynamic number eight possesses speed, power, sublime passing and a fierce shot. Gerrard never knows when he’s beaten, and has led his team to victory with some astonishing performances, notably in the 2005 Champions League final in Istanbul and 2006 FA Cup final.
Born in Whiston, Liverpool, he joined the Reds as a schoolboy and made his debut aged 18. Injury plagued his early career but his box-to-box abilities soon made him a regular for club and country. He has been regularly linked with a move away from Anfield, but is contracted to his hometown club until 2011.
