A local lad who came through the academy, supplies a good long throw and could bring down a lion with a well-timed tackle. That'll do
Born in Halifax, Clarke has been on the Terriers’ books since August 2001. He made his senior debut in September that year in a 1-1 draw with Stoke at the Britannia Stadium and scored his first goal in the next game, against Blackpool.
A cultured centre-back with a massive throw and a pleasing ability to time a tackle, he has matured into an accomplished defender and his fame has spread outside the West Riding: FourFourTwo named him one of the 50 best Football League players in both 2005 and 2006. Injury ruined the six-footer's 2006/07 campaign but he bounced back the following season to start 44 of the club’s 46 League One games. He's contracted until the summer of 2010, and his younger brother Tom is also in Town's first team squad.
