Gill picked up the unwanted first red in the new Wembley, despite a brilliant first season with Exeter
Experienced central midfielder Gill began his career as a trainee with Peterborough United and went on to make over 140 first-team appearances for the Posh after progressing through their youth system. He left London Road to join Notts County in 2004 and endured mixed fortunes with the Pies, quickly finding himself transfer-listed after a tough start under manager Gary Mills before going on to feature regularly in the side under new boss Ian Richardson.
He moved to St James Park in January 2006 and has been a virtual ever-present since. However, as a Grecian, Gill has picked up the unwanted honour of being the first player to be sent off at the new Wembley; he saw red in the closing stages of the 2007 Conference Play-Off Final against Morecambe.
