'Magic' has become a regular at Ibrox and will be hoping he can continue to impress and help the side win more silverwear
The Algeria international centre-half first came to these shores in January 2006, joining Crewe Alexandra on loan from French side FC Gueugnon.
His performances as an uncompromising, athletic stopper caught the eye of a number of sides and he joined Championship club Sheffield Wednesday for £2.5m that summer following Crewe’s relegation to League One.
At Hillsborough, he made just 29 appearances but, willing to carry the ball out at every opportunity, he gave the impression of a player able to play at a higher level.
He got his chance when Alan Pardew beat Reading and Birmingham to secure his services for £2.5m in January 2007 and following relegation he formed a fine defensive partnership with Paddy McCarthy.
However he was soon on the move again - joining Scottish giants Rangers for £2.5 million in the summer of 2008, where he would go onto become a key part of the Gers side that won the SPL title in 2009.
