Defender

Despite his advancing years Carey still remains a vital part of City’s push for promotion in 2008/09, having captained the side to playoff final defeat in 2007/08

Louis Carey is a product of Bristol City’s youth team, originally bursting onto the scene way back in October 1995.

He started out as a right back, but is now more adept playing at the heart of defence. He has played over 500 games for Bristol City, only the fifth player in the club’s history to achieve that feat.

He has had two spells at Bristol City with a spell at Coventry City in the 2004/2005 season wedged between, although it is fair to say that his heart never truly left Bristol and he failed to settle in the Midlands.

Captained the Robins at Wembley in their playoff final defeat to Hull.

Sorry Louis, but I think its time to pass over the reigns to McCombe and Fontaine. Looks indecisive since his injury, and its costing city points.

Bristol City's local captain is one of the most consistent defenders outside the premiership, and an extremely popular figure at the club. He has spent virtually his entire career with the club and has improved dramatically in the last three or four years, making him the first name on the teamsheet when fit. He is a tough centre back who loves a good tackle and enjoys pushing forward as well, his recent partnership with Jamie McCombe has been the rock on which Gary Johnson has built his successful side.
