Thomson's first club was the delightfully quaintly named Peebles Thistle, of the Eastern Region Youth League
After a protracted and rather unseemly transfer row, the Hibs captain finally got his wish, joining Rangers in January 2007 for £2m.
It took the central midfielder over a year to score his debut goal in a 1-0 win over Celtic in March 2008, but he has fought – and seemingly won – a doughty battle with Brahim Hemdani to claim the right to play alongside Barry Ferguson in the middle of the park. Manager Walter Smith sees Thomson very much as part of his long-term plans, but interest from the Premiership may test his resolve.
