Pacy winger with definite talent, but just as much baggage - failed to pin down a regular starting spot and may be on the move again soon
A rare talent, Pennant has struggled with problems on and off the pitch throughout his career, leading to a failure to settle at a number of clubs.
A quick, skilful winger with the ability to beat a man and put in fine crosses, Pennant started out at Notts County before Arsenal signed him for £2m aged just 15.
He failed to break into Arsene Wenger’s side, but impressed on loan at Watford, Leeds and Birmingham. Rafa Benitez bagged him in summer 2006 after a long quest for a winger, but Pennant has since been in and out of the side.
