He's been around Fir Park longer than the floodlights, and this season he'll hope to break into the first team and stay there
Part of the Fir Park furniture since the age of 12, the little striker has worked his way up through Motherwell's U17 and U19 ranks. His reward for his perseverance and hard work was a breakthrough into the first team and although most of his 17 appearances in 2007/08 came from the bench, he started and scored during an impressive final-day performance against Hibs. Signed up until 2011, Murphy has been groomed for the inevitable day when Motherwell’s more experienced strikers fly the coop; the summer sale of Ross McCormack to Cardiff City may mean he gets many more starts this season.
