The lanky, hard-working forward is back in Lancashire and hoping to find his best form in his home county
One of several Lancastrians in the PNE squad, Blackburn-born Ormerod netted 45 goals in 128 appearances with first club Blackpool, helping the club climb out of the basement division and earning a £750,000 move to Premier League Southampton in the summer of 2001.
A tall, sometimes ungainly forward with bags of enthusiasm and work-rate, if not a prolific return, he endeared himself to Saints fans but often found himself playing second fiddle to James Beattie or Kevin Phillips. With just 12 goals from his 98 appearances, he joined North End on a free transfer in January 2006, only to break his leg that May against Leeds United.
By the end of the 2007/08 season, he had scored 13 goals for the club, though he spent the final months of the campaign with Nottingham Forest.
