Gifted player, if a little rough round the edges, is an Indomitable Lion for Cameroon, but still a cub for the Gunners
Nephew of Cameroonian football legend Rigobert Song, Alexandre, is high-rated at Arsenal. The youngster, who can operate in midfield or defence, caught the eye of the Gunners scouts while leading his former club Bastia to victory in the U18 national French Cup, known as the Gambardella Cup.
Arsene Wenger has spoken highly of Song, but thus far, his faith looks a little misplaced with the Cameroonian only showing flashes of talent.
In January 2007 he joined Charlton on a five month loan, but couldn’t save the Addicks from relegation to the Championship.
His performances for his country have been a lot more impressive. Song was a revelation at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, where he roared at the heart of the Indomitable Lions defence, earning him a place in the tournament’s best XI. Now is the time for Song to fight for a regular place in Arsenal’s starting line-up.
