The Eastlander | Manchester City
So, the Kaka move never happened after all. Pity, but in the final analysis it has probably done a great deal for the image of
MCFC in the eyes of the world.
It's sheer audacity overshadowed everything else in the football scene and in the remote area of Egypt where I was holidaying when the drama unfolded,
United's return to the top of the Premiership went largely unnoticed.
This is definitely what Egypt looks like...
Yet, even the Bedouins encamped on the outskirts of town with their satellite TVs (they are no longer Nomads) now recognise City as one of the major players in the sport. And the rest of the world know that "Middle Eastlands" means business and have the money and determination to succeeed.
There is still time during the rest of the transfer window to sign a world class player but we may have to settle for some stop gap signings to get us through the second half of the season and then get down to some serious restructing in the Summer.
The big question is - will Mark Hughes still be at the helm when the chequebook comes out in earnest, or will the first major move be to attract a big name manager with 'an offer they can't refuse'?
Many City fans feel that Hughes has had more time, money and opportunity than most managers ever get but without any significant impact on the club's position. Continuity is important, but how long will the new owners tolerate the same old excuses for the lack of success?
